Pasta Hut
So I hear you say. Pasta Hut? What is that? In the midst of the credit crunch and financial breakdown you are excused not to know. Our loved and hated brand, Pizza Hut is transformed into Pasta Hut.
I can vaguely remember the "Back to the Future" sequel in which Pizza Hut was the only restaurant that had survived. Well, not any more! So what are those Americans thinking? You should have asked that question a couple of years back. A visit back in 2005 in the one and only Pizza Hut in Lancaster made me realise how far from Pizza the monstrosity that Pizza Hut served was. I remember a HUGE pizza, with stuffed crust, extra CHEDDAR cheese (mozzarella anyone?) pepperoni, ham, onions (definitely fried) and jalapenos. How is that pizza? It’s the bastardized by the Americans (and English...) version of the classic Italian margarita Pizza, with thin crust, flowery base, excellent mozzarella cheese in sparse quantities and fresh tomato. Kind of like the other monstrosity, the quadruple, yes QUADRUPLE burger from Burger King! Lets not talk about the calories or the fat content. Eating a whole pizza can be a very tough challenge for your stomach.
So Pasta Hut? Some may argue that Pizza Hut is becoming upmarket, wants to target the more elegant and self conscious, maybe take on the Bella Italia’s and Carluccios of the world. Based on facts, a plate of pasta is infinitely healthier than that Pizza. But that's were the "facts" stop. I am convinced that Pasta Hut will stuff the tomato sauce in the Bolognese with sugar to make it taste better, hook you up. It will pour tones of double, full fat cream on that carbonara of yours so that it has a better texture. Everyone knows that fat, sugar and oil is addictive. Being addicted to such a diet is catastrophic, with weight gain being the least of your concerns. But from a corporate point of view, fat people are addicted to food. Low quality, fatty, sugary food. And they will come back for more. And that means more and more money...
So what makes you think that Pizza Hut's attempt at pasta will be better than its attempt on Pizza? A wolf with a sheep's skin is still a wolf....
See for yourself....
